Job Title:  Desktop Support Assistant
Salary:  $16.65 - $19.57 per hour ($34,637 - $40,699)
Reports to:  Information Systems Director
Supervises:  Not a Supervisory position

Summary: Under general supervision of the Information Systems Director, assists in a variety of technical work related to installing and maintaining computers, printers, and their associated software. This is treated as a non-exempt position.

Minimum Qualifications: Must possess a CompTIA A+ certification, or ability to obtain a CompTIA A+ certificate within one (1) year of hire, and experience equivalent to one-year full time technical level Microsoft Windows (7/10) work involving responsibility for installation, troubleshooting and administration of standalone and/or networked workstations. Must have a high school diploma or GED. Must possess a valid Arizona drivers license and be able to meet the Community's insurance carrier requirements (see list on website or attached to application instructions) Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Must complete and pass a background check. Microsoft MCP certification is preferred.

Hiring Preference: The Community affords Indian Preference and Veterans' preference. In applying Indian Preference, preference will be given to qualified Community members, then to qualified Native Americans, and then other qualified candidates. Except as otherwise stated herein, all candidates will receive consideration without regard to race, color, sex, age, disability, religion, national origin, or other non-merit factor. Applicants wishing to claim Indian Preference must submit a Certificate of Indian Blood or proof of tribal enrollment at the time of application. All applicants wishing to claim Veterans' Preference must submit a copy of a certified Department of Defense DD Form 214 "Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty."

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provides individual, one-on-one assistance to computer users for a variety of network and office applications, including email, Internet usage, and Microsoft Office programs.
  2. Sets up new workstations and re-images existing workstations.
  3. Assists in maintaining accurate inventory and work order records.
  4. Assists users over the phone with various computer related problems.
  5. Replaces/configures a variety of hardware components, including motherboards, modems, disk drives, tape drives, and related peripherals.
  6. Troubleshoots and resolves basic hardware and software problems.
  7. Troubleshoots and resolves basic network connectivity problems.
  8. Installs computer related hardware and software.
  9. Utilizes vendors’ technical support resources to resolve problems or complete tasks.
  10. Performs routine maintenance on computers, printers and other peripherals.
  11. Refers major problems with software, hardware, and/or network to advanced level technician or supervisor.
  12. Conducts special projects as assigned and provides status reports as required.
  13. Insures all required reports are accurately and expediently prepared.
  14. Maintains high level of communication with Ak-Chin Community staff with respect to scheduling hardware and software installations and support calls.
  15. Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

Other Requirements:

  • Proven skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other Ak-Chin Community staff members, software technical services representatives, students, and Ak-Chin Community members
  • Skill in oral and written communication
  • Skill in working on a number of projects/issues simultaneously and adapting to rapidly and frequently changing priorities
  • Skill in configuring and using Microsoft Office applications
  • Skill in installing, configuring, and maintaining a variety of internal/external hardware and peripheral equipment
  • Knowledge of Windows 7 and Windows 10 workstation operating systems
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques for replacing and configuring a variety of internal/external hardware components
  • Knowledge of configuring and using a variety of network applications, including electronic mail and calendars
  • Ability to create and maintain records and work logs
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor during stressful situations
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written policies, procedures and instructions
  • Ability to demonstrate integrity, ingenuity and inventiveness in the performance of assigned tasks
  • Ability to maintain current technical expertise in the rapidly changing technology of computers by attending meetings and reading relevant material
  • Ability to perform all work duties and activities in accordance Ak-Chin Community policies, procedures and safety practices.
