Job Title:  Cashier/Stocker
* 1 part-time, up to 29 hours per week
Salary:  $10.03 - $11.79 per hour
Reports to:  Store Manager - Vekol Market
Supervises:  Not a Supervisory position

Summary: Under general supervision, processes customer sales transactions at the front cash registers or Point-of-Sale (POS) terminals. Maintains proper control of cash, aids in stocking sales floor, ensures customer satisfaction and safeguards market assets. This position reports to the store management team. This is treated as a non-exempt position.

Minimum Qualifications: Must be 18 years of age. Some cashier or customer service experience preferred. Must be able to work weekends and some evenings. Must successfully pass a background check.

Hiring Preference: The Community affords Indian Preference and Veterans' preference. In applying Indian Preference, preference will be given to qualified Community members, then to qualified Native Americans, and then other qualified candidates. Except as otherwise stated herein, all candidates will receive consideration without regard to race, color, sex, age, disability, religion, national origin, or other non-merit factor. Applicants wishing to claim Indian Preference must submit a Certificate of Indian Blood or proof of tribal enrollment at the time of application. All applicants wishing to claim Veterans' Preference must submit a copy of a certified Department of Defense DD Form 214 "Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty."

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Computes bill, itemized lists and tickets showing amount due from customer.
  2. Receives payment by cash, check, debit card, credit card or gift card.
  3. Responsible for cash accountability.
  4. Issues receipts, change due to customers, refunds, credits, coupons or rain checks.
  5. Operates cash register or POS terminal by passing price coded items across electronic scanner to record price, enter PLU or UPC manually, compile printed list and display cost of customer purchase, tax and rebates on monitor screen.
  6. Stocks sales floor shelves, cold case, cooler and freezer.
  7. Greets customers entering the market and responds promptly to customer needs
  8. Maintains clean and orderly checkout area, interior and exterior store appearance
  9. Maintains high standards of market image, ensuring the Market is clean and inviting to customers.
  10. Perform other work related duties as assigned.

Other Requirements:

  • Demonstrated ability to provide the highest level of customer service consistently.
  • Advanced attention to detail with the capability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills for dealing cross functionally with peers and management.
  • Ability to multi-task and stay organized.
  • Ability to work varied hours and days as business dictates.
  • Basic knowledge of math, weights and measures.
  • Demonstrated ability to use a cash register or POS terminal.
  • Ability to bend, reach and frequently lift items up to 5 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to push and pull fully loaded hand trucks and use box cutters.
  • Familiarity with grocery or convenience store operations and business practices.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Excel and Word.
